A Mexican citizen was fatally shot at a U.S. Border Patrol station in Texas less than a week after a man was fatally shot while with a group of migrants getting water along the border.

The Mexican citizen was in custody at the Ysleta Border Patrol station in El Paso, Texas, on Tuesday when he was shot, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The agency said Border Patrol agents were involved. The FBI said that he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Officials released no other details.

The Mexican Consulate in El Paso said the man who died was a Mexican citizen who was being processed when criminal charges against him were discovered. The FBI is investigating the shooting.

The incident comes less than a week after two Mexican migrants were shot, one fatally, as they were getting water near the U.S.-Mexico border. That shooting occurred in rural Hudspeth County, about 90 miles from El Paso.

Two Texas brothers, Mark and Mike Sheppard, who were arrested and charged with manslaughter have been released on bail pending trial. Mark Sheppard told investigators that he and his brother were hunting.

After his arrest, Mike Sheppard was reportedly fired as warden of the West Texas Detention Facility, which previously housed federal immigration detainees.
