Michelle Obama talked about parenting once more after becoming an empty nester.

The Obamas’ daughters have both left home to attend college. Michelle and Barack’s eldest, Malia Obama, is already in her third year at Harvard. On the other hand, their yougest Sasha has just started her freshman year last fall.

While speaking with Oprah Winfrey on her “WW 2020 Vision: Your Life In Focus” tour, the former first lady said that life is good after becoming an empty nester with her husband. She also opened up about her life with Barack now that both of their daughters are away from home.

“Parenting takes up a lot of emotional space … I put a lot of time and energy into parenting these girls but right now we are trying to make their lives normal — so that means weekends were a pain,” Michelle said (via People).

She added that they had to worry about the parties their daughters were going to. Among their concerns was the presence of alcohol, so they had to know who the parents of the kids their children interacted with were and every weekend was “hard.” When Malia and Sasha were still home, Michelle admitted that she had to “get information” about their whereabouts and doing so “takes some energy.” The ex-FLOTUS then joked, “And they’re gone, thank God.”

“All that energy I can now place back on me and spending time figuring out my next chapter, how I want to spend the rest of my life,” Michelle added. “We have more emotional time, emotional energy. It’s just me and him and [the family dogs] Bo and Sunny and dinner. And they don’t talk, the dogs.”

Michelle continued by saying that at present, she and her husband are returning to the point where they are seeing each other again. Whenever she gazes at the former president, she could still see the man she fell in love with.

When Michelle appeared on the “Today” show, the recalled how she and Barack dropped Sasha off at college. She confessed that they tried not to embarrass their daughter because she had roommates, so they held back their tears. When Sasha drove off on her own and said their last goodbye, it was only the time they cried.

Michelle celebrated Thanksgiving with a sweet family photo. The former first lady shared a snap of her with her husband and two daughters. It was reportedly taken when Sasha was still a high school senior and week away from turning 18.
