Graduating seniors might have missed the typical graduation experience, but they won’t miss Miley Cyrus performing one of her old songs in their honor. The “Slide Away” singer is throwing it all the way back to a 2009 hit single for her performance in the virtual “#Graduation2020.”

Cyrus will perform “The Climb” in the streaming event, “#Graduation2020: Facebook and Instagram Celebrate the Class of 2020.” The event is set for May 15 and will serve as a virtual graduation ceremony to the high school seniors across the country who will not be able to experience graduation in the traditional sense thanks to COVID-19, People reported.

“The Climb” is one of Cyrus’s most popular and well-known songs and one that she has not performed live since the March for Our Lives rally in March 2018.

“It felt so good because it had a purpose when there was the tragedy in Vegas it was so amazing to be able to sing that song and be able to make it current for what everyone needed to hear: that there’s always gonna be another mountain, another struggle, but it’s all about the climb,” Cyrus told BuzzFeed about the pop ballad in 2017, after performing the song on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in memory of the 58 people who died by gunfire in the Las Vegas shooting.

But if Cyrus’s performance isn’t enough to entice high school seniors to tune in, other famous celebrities will also make an appearance in the live stream including Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey will deliver the commencement address for the event.

Jennifer Garner, “Old Town Road” singer Lil Nas X, Olympic champion Simone Biles and comedian and “Crazy Rich Asians” star Awkwafina will also pop into the live stream to deliver their own words of advice to seniors.

Facebook and Instagram aren’t just celebrating graduation for one day, they are preparing for a week of virtual festivities. The two apps will be participating in hosting typical end-of-year activities like highlighting senior superlatives and offering information on how to host your own virtual graduation party.
