‘The Mindy Project’ Star Mindy Kaling Welcomes Baby Girl Katherine Kaling

Mindy Kaling just welcomed her first child – a girl – and named her Katherine Kaling.

The “Mindy Project” star gave birth on Dec. 15, but it was only on Dec. 19 that it was confirmed by multiple publications. Kaling has not shared any photos of Katherine, and the actress has never revealed that identity of her baby’s dad.

Kaling’s pregnancy first broke in July, but it was only later that month that it was confirmed by her “A Wrinkle In Time” co-star, Oprah Winfrey. The talk show host told Elle DeGeneres on the “Ellen Show,” “She did announce it.”

DeGeneres said (via People), “If anyone is going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person. You can’t complain that much about it. And you also can’t be like, ‘Hey, Oprah, zip it’ – because she’s almost like a religious figure.”

In September, Kaling’s co-stars couldn’t help but praise the actress for being a wonderful leader to them. They believe that she will also be a good mom to her baby girl. “She’s going to be the greatest mom in the world. I am just so happy for her,” Beth Grant told People.

“She’s such a fearless leader, and she’s so strong, and smart and intelligent. I want her to be my mom, because she’s so incredible. But I will settle for her being my friend,” Rebecca Rittenhouse said.

Meanwhile, Kaling also kept mum about the gender of her baby. It was her co-stars in the Hulu show that announced that she’s expecting a girl. Grant told US Weekly that she became emotional when she found out that her good her is having a girl.

“I just think she’s up to it… I just think that she’s ready and I’m very happy for her because I have a daughter that’s turning 25 and it’s just the greatest thing in the world,” she said.

Ed Weeks also confirmed that Kaling was having a baby girl during the same interview. “We were so thrilled for her. The show started as a tribute to her mother, who very sadly passed away just as the show is being picked up, and it ends with her having a daughter of her own,” he said.
