The body of a missing man has been discovered with his dog standing by his side in Arkansas.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office received a call at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday about a missing person, 62-year-old Timothy Reels of Spadra, and began their search, Miami Herald reported.

After speaking to a number of people, investigators learned that the last time anybody saw or heard from Reels was on Feb. 21.

Deputies from the sheriff's office searched Reels' house and found that he left his truck and cell phone behind before stepping out.

The sheriff's office released a statement on Facebook Sunday to ask the public for any information about Reels' whereabouts.

"The subject is Timothy Reel, of Spadra. He's a 62-year old white male. He was last seen on Monday. His ATV and dog are also missing," it wrote.

The statement also disclosed that a ground search, which involved multiple K-9s, ATVs, boats and drones, was carried out to find Reels.

"This involved personnel from the sheriff's office, Hartman Fire, JC Search & Rescue, JC Dive Team and Arkansas Game & Fish," it said further.

The statement was updated later that day to tell the public that the search crew found Reels' 4-wheeler abandoned in the Spadra Bottoms. However, they still hadn't found any signs of Reels or his dog, according to Charlotte Observer.

The search for Reels finally came to an end at around 9:30 a.m. Monday after the team discovered his body about a quarter of a mile away from where his ATV was located. He was not alone. His pet dog, a pit bull, was seen alive and standing by his side.

"His dog, who was alive, was still beside him. Deputies were able to safely capture the animal. It was taken immediately to a local veterinarian to be examined," the sheriff's office noted in a follow-up statement.

Authorities believe no foul play was involved, but how exactly Reels died and how long his dog stayed beside him remain unclear.

Officials are now working toward finding the cause of the man's death.
