“Modern Family” Season 9 will feature a guest appearance from actor James Van Der Beek.

According to Entertainment Weekly, he will be playing the role of Bo Johnson, Cam’s (Eric Stonestreet) high school crush. Bo also happens to be Cam’s sister Pam’s (Dana Powell) baby daddy. Van Der Beek’s episode will be called “No Small Feet,” and it will air on ABC sometime in December.

The “Dawson’s Creek” alum has been sharing photos from the set of the hit TV series via his Twitter account. In one of the snaps, he is seen posing with Stonestreet, Powell and Jesse Tyler-Ferguson. By the looks of it, they are the only three actors Van Der Beek will be sharing the screen with. After all, Cam and Mitch (Ferguson) are married to each other, and Pam is living with them.

Meanwhile, Modern Family” has been renewed by ABC until Season 10 in May. ABC president Channing Dungey released a statement (via TV Line) following their decision to pick up the series for two more seasons.

“‘Modern Family’ has been the centerpiece of our comedy brand for eight seasons and we are thrilled to have it on our schedule for two more years,” she said. Since it premiered last month, the ratings for the show have been staggering.

On its first week, “Modern Family” garnered a total of 7 million viewers and a 2.11 demo rating among audiences aged 18 to 49. On week two, the total number of viewers dropped to 6.3 million and a 1.8 demo rating. These figures dropped again on week three with only 6.2 million viewers. On its fourth and most recent week, the ratings for the show stayed the same, according to TV Series Finale.

“Modern Family” follows the lives of a group of family made up of the Pritchetts, Dunphys and Tucker. They are bound together not only by their surnames, but also by their love and support for one another. Led by Jay (Ed O’Neill), he fathers Claire (Julie Bowen) and Mitchell. She is married to Phil (Tyler Burrell), and they have been blessed with three kids, Haley (Sarah Hyland), Alex (Ariel Winter) and Luke (Nolan Gould).

Mitchell is married to Cam, and they adopted a daughter named Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons). Jay divorced Claire and Mitchell’s mom and married a much younger woman named Gloria (Sofia Vergara), who has a son named Manny (Rico Rodriguez) from a previous marriage. She and Jay also have a son named Joe (Jeremy Maguire).

“Modern Family” Season 9 airs Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. EDT on ABC.
