“Modern Family” star Ariel Winter recently fired back at her mom for negatively commenting on her wardrobe.

On her Twitter account, Winter posted a cryptic tweet about someone who lies consistently. The actress did not mention her mom Chrisoula Workman’s name, but Winter also rhetorically asked why the unnamed person only talks to her through the press. Towards the end of her tweet, Winter dropped the word “toxic.”

Earlier this week, Workman sat down for an interview with InTouch Weekly and talked about her estranged relationship with her daughter. Workman also expressed her concern over the way her daughter dresses. “She needs to grow up. I would tell her to dress properly, be the beautiful person she is. I feel sad that she feels the need to expose herself when it’s not necessary. Ariel is smart, beautiful and talented. She is a legitimate actress. She does not need to do this. She is beautiful with her clothes on,” she said.

Winter got emancipated from her mom in 2015 after a long court battle. According to People, the Department of Children and Family Services have found evidence that Workman has been emotionally abusing her own daughter. A year later, Winter appeared on “Good Morning America” where she talked about her relationship with Workman.

The actress revealed that the her mom was a stage parent, and she would typically push her to pursue a career in acting. “This is what she wanted me to do, and she pushed very hard for that and kind of put that in the forefront of her mind instead of what I wanted and what I needed. And that was definitely hard, but I don’t think that was the only issue,” she explained.

At that time, Winter also admitted that she and Workman have not spoken in three and a half years. Winter’s older sister, Shanelle Gray, became her legal guardian after being emancipated. Prior to the court’s decision, Winter expressed her thoughts over the difficulty of the case and said that it became tougher because everyone knew about it since she’s a public personality.
