A woman has been arrested for strangulating her 3-year-old daughter to death because the child supported her father during an argument over what to watch on television.

The father, Eeranna, came home for lunch Tuesday afternoon and switched on the TV to watch the news. His wife, identified as 26-year-old Sudha, got angry and told him not to come home if he was going to watch just news on television all the time, local daily the Times of India reported.

This led to an argument between them. At the time, their child, identified as Vinutha, sided with her father and asked her mother to not fight with him and let him watch TV. This enraged the woman. When Eeranna went back to work, the woman took the child to a construction site and she strangled her to death. The incident happened in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru.

The woman and the child were not there at the home when Eeranna came back from work in the evening. When he called his wife, she told him the girl went missing while she was purchasing some snacks at a local store. She returned home after a while and joined her husband in "searching" for their daughter. The man later filed a missing person complaint.

The following morning, a passerby found the girl's body at the construction site and informed the police. The body had marks on the neck. Officers sent it for an autopsy.

The mother was detained and during questioning, she confessed to killing her daughter. The woman told the officers that she was angry because the child would always side with her father and "often humiliated her," local daily The Hindu reported.

The woman was taken into custody and charged under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
