A Minnesota woman, who was accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend during a stunt video for a YouTube prank, pleaded guilty in the Norman County District Court last week.

Monalisa Perez, 20, pleaded guilty to a second-degree manslaughter charge for shooting her 22-year-old boyfriend Pedro Ruiz III.

According to reports, Perez, in her statement to the police, said that her deceased boyfriend was accidentally killed while the couple was shooting a prank video, during which Ruiz had asked Perez to shoot at him through a thick book he was holding. However, things took a deadly turn when the bullet cut through the book, killing Ruiz.

Perez, who was pregnant with the couple's second child at the time of the incident, said their three-year-old daughter too had witnessed her father's death.

According to a report in People, the couple began posting videos on YouTube in May. In a bid to gain popularity, they planned to make a stunt video outside Perez’s home, during which the Ruiz got shot.

While shooting the video, Perez had also installed two cameras to record their stunt, the Daily Mail Online reported.

Soon after Ruiz was shot, Perez made a frantic 911 call seeking help.

“We were doing a YouTube video, and it went wrong. Please hurry up. … My God, hurry up, please!” she told the emergency dispatcher.

Perez is expected to be sentenced in February. However, according to her plea agreement, she will have to serve 180 days in prison. Of this 180 days, for the next three years, Perez would go to jail for a month every year after which she would be eligible to serve the remaining six-month of her jail term on electronic home monitoring, reported the Star Tribune.

The report also stated that Perez would not be allowed to make any financial compensation from the video recording of Ruiz’s death. Also, she would be barred from possessing any firearms in her life.

In a similar incident, a woman from New York was charged with the second degree murder of her boyfriend. Nicole Addimando, 28, was accused of fatally shooting her 30-year-old live-in boyfriend Christopher Grover. The incident took place at the couple's apartment complex in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Addimando was prosecuted in the Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Court. She was sent on remand to Dutchess County Jail without bail.

According to a report in the Poughkeepsie Journal, Dr. Dennis Chute, the Dutchess County Medical Examiner said Grover was killed from a gunshot wound to his head, adding “The manner of death is homicide.”
