KEY POINTS

  • TiMi Studio Group and Capcom are working on a new "Monster Hunter" mobile game
  • The game promises to be an authentic experience designed for mobile platforms
  • TiMi Studio Group also developed "Call of Duty: Mobile"

TiMi Studio Group, a Tencent-owned mobile game developer, is set to tackle the "Monster Hunter" franchise next after confirmation from their executives as well as Capcom.

Not much yet is known about what kind of game this mobile adaptation is going to be but according to Polygon, TiMi Studio Group aims to "reproduce the hunting actions that define the Monster Hunter series" while simultaneously providing a "unique" mobile experience that caters to both new and seasoned hunters.

TiMi Studio Group is the same studio that developed "Pokemon Unite," a MOBA game based on the wildly-popular monster-catching franchise for the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. This company also produced "Call of Duty: Mobile," a successful mobile adaptation of "Activision's" FPS juggernaut which recently received its latest mainline game entry.

The studio is based in Shenzhen, China, where they are best known as the developers of "Honor of Kings," a "League of Legends"-inspired mobile title that has been raking in over a billion dollars worth of revenue every year since 2017.

Fans on Reddit are already expressing their concerns over the potential of a new "Monster Hunter" mobile game as the previous one, "Riders," was discontinued on March 30, 2022.

Some are worried about how badly the game might get monetized, citing how Tencent's hand at "Diablo Immortal's" predatory money-making scheme was bad enough. Others are concerned about how TiMi will be able to condense the mechanical complexity of "Monster Hunter's" combat into a practical control scheme for touchscreen devices.

There are also Reddit users who simply do not care for the upcoming title. However, it's worth noting that the Asian mobile games market remains strong, and "Monster Hunter's" popularity in Japan can lead to TiMi's upcoming adaptation receiving a fairly sizable following.

The upcoming collaboration will be Capcom's first time working with the Chinese game developer, but it wouldn't be their first attempt at finding success within the mobile market following the releases of "Explore," "Stories," and the aforementioned and il-fated "Riders."

In 2021, TiMi joined the ranks of the world's largest video game developers after earning $10bn in just one year, as per Reuters.
