A woman was killed by her mother over a property dispute in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. According to local reports, the woman's brother-in-law helped the mother in committing the crime.

The woman had reportedly inherited two houses and $30,000 after her husband died. The woman was planning to remarry but her mother was against her decision. Police said the mother feared losing the property and the money if her daughter married again.

Investigators said the dispute over marriage and property had been going on for a few days. On the day of the incident, local police were called to a home where a woman was thrashed to death, India Today reported.

Police suspected the mother of the deceased and the brother-in-law to have been involved in the crime. During questioning the mother and brother-in-law confessed to the murder. The duo also said the reason for the killing was a property dispute. Police recovered the stick used for the murder along with a piece of cloth that had bloodstains of the accused. The mother said she plotted the murder of her own daughter with her son-in-law fearing she would lose the money and the property.

There are several incidents when a property dispute in a family turned deadly. Over the weekend, a man was shot to death by his son over a property dispute in the eastern Indian state of Bihar. According to the Times of India, the accused shot his father four times in the abdomen. The father had reportedly sold part of his ancestral property to another man. The accused asked his father to give him a share of the money. Trouble between them ensued after the father refused to give him the money.
