Police on Thursday held a mother, grandfather and grandmother on charges of keeping five children locked in cages at the family’s home in Smiths Station, Alabama.

Kylla Michelle Mann, 30, Pamela Deloris Bond, 66, James H. Bond, 69, were arrested by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday after police allegedly found evidence of repeated child abuse towards Mann’s five children. The children, ages 3, 4, 10, and 11, and an 8-month-old baby were removed from the home.

Mann is charged with aggravated abuse of a child less than 6 years of age and reckless endangerment. Pamela Bond is facing charges of aggravated child abuse of a child less than 6 years of age, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. James Bond is charged with aggravated child abuse of a child less than 6 years of age and reckless endangerment.

All three were held on at least $120,000 bond.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was reportedly told about possible child abuse at Mann’s home Monday by the Lee County Department of Human Resources. Officers were sent to conduct a welfare check at the home and contacted the family when they reportedly found two wooden cages with locked lids.

Four of the children were reportedly home at the time of the check.

“The investigation revealed evidence that the children had been locked in the cages on multiple occasions,” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
