A policeman arrested a fugitive criminal while the two were naked in a sauna. The incident took place in Sweden on Friday.

A few minutes after entering the sauna, known as “bastu” in Sweden, the off-duty policeman realized the man sitting beside him in the crowded room was a drug offender who was on a run after being sentenced to jail. The policeman immediately arrested the criminal.

Police spokeswoman Carina Skagerlind said, after recognizing each other, “the naked police officer calmly told the man that he should consider himself arrested.” She added the arrested was not dramatic and that “the wanted man didn’t try to flee.”

Speaking to local media, Christoffer Bohman, deputy police chief in the Stockholm district of Rinkeby said, "By a coincidence, and rather amusingly, they both recognized each other in the sauna,” the Local reported.

The arrested man was previously found guilty of “attempting to assault a public servant.”

“It’s obviously much easier to act when you have colleagues with you, plus all the right tools and equipment. This was about as stripped-back and bare-bones an arrest as it is possible to make, in several senses of the term,” Bohman added, the Guardian reported.

Speaking to a local daily, the sauna manager said, "When the policeman saw him, he came and said nobody should go in or out, then he called for reinforcements and took him.”

The Rinkeby Police praised the officer on their Facebook page under the headline "naked arrest." The post began by saying, "To our dear colleague who kept your head cool when it was heating up to a potentially dangerous situation, despite being on your day off and relaxing in a spa.”

"Despite finding yourself in a packed sauna with a wanted criminal, you kept your wits and carried out an arrest while considering the needs of all,” the post added.

The post ended by warning fugitive criminals: “We are everywhere. Even if you do not see us, we are there.”
