The Brooklyn Nets had a probably the best free agency among all the teams in the NBA this summer as they went on to land Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving from Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics respectively. The team is now looking to secure their own players and have done so by reaching an agreement with young shooting guard / small forward Caris LeVert.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Sunday that the Nets and LeVert reached an agreement over a three-year extension worth $52.5 million. That will see the guard remain under team control until the end of the 2021 season.

The extension was announced on the same day LeVert was celebrating his 25th birthday and the player celebrated by posting a video thanking the Brooklyn franchise for showing the faith in him and supporting him through his ups and downs. He concluded by stating: “No better feeling to start off Year 25. Brooklyn, I can’t wait for what’s next.”

LeVert averaged 13.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists last season in 40 games. He only returned to the team in February after suffering a leg injury in November 2018 as the Nets finished last season with a 42-40 record and made the NBA playoffs before losing in the first round 4-1 to the Philadelphia 76ers.

“The three-year cap hit on the $52.5M Caris LeVert extension is $16.2M, $17.5M and $18.8M. The first-year salary in 2020-21 will rank no. 15 among all shooting guards. The $17.5M per year average ranks only behind Rudy Gobert ($22.5M) for a player who was selected in the 20's of the NBA Draft and signed a rookie extension,” ESPN’s Bobby Marks wrote.

LeVert will be part of the Nets lineup alongside Irving next season with Durant unlikely to join them until the start of the 2020-21 campaign after suffering a ruptured Achilles during the 2019 NBA Finals.
