One name that has rarely been mentioned in NBA trade talks is Blake Griffin of the Detroit Pistons. Seemingly doing well with his new team, there were rumors about a possible move involving the dunk-crazy forward whom many perceived as frustrated with the way the Pistons were chugging.

Just recently, there were unconfirmed reports that Blake Griffin had been tied up to a potential trade. The 29-year-old all-star forward categorically denied such rumors following the Pistons' loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. He set the record straight with team owner Tom Gores seated beside him at the Little Caesar’s Arena, the Detroit Free Press reported.

“Myself or my agent or my people haven’t said anything. I heard that (rumor) buzzing around a little bit, but you have to consider the source on some of those things,” Griffin said. “I am happy here and, of course, I’m frustrated. You should be frustrated — if you’re not frustrated, what are you doing playing basketball?”

Griffin told media that he never really requested for a trade. This was technically concurred by Gores, who said that he did not receive word from the top pick of the 2009 NBA Draft with regards to a trade.

Tying up Griffin to potential trade talks should not come as a surprise. He is averaging 26.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game and yet the effort is not enough to catapult the Pistons atop the Eastern Conference standings. Detroit is currently at ninth spot with a 21-28 win-loss card.

The Pistons do have time to catch the last bus to the playoffs, although they have to act fast. If not Griffin, some other Piston could be involved in a potential trade.

If not Griffin, another player that could be a target is Andre Drummond. The Charlotte Hornets have expressed interest in the 25-year-old center, according to Brandon Robinson, as he is someone who can possibly fill the void in the middle.

Ironically, the Pistons have also expressed interest in Nicolas Batum and Malik Monk, Fansided reported. If ever the Hornets and the Pistons do engage in trade talks, it could involve the three names, plus perhaps some other assets like future picks and cash considerations.

Whatever happens after the Feb. 7 trade deadline may factor in on what the future holds for Griffin. For now, the power forward can sit tight and see if Gores and the Pistons management have any plans of honing up the roster.
