KEY POINTS

  • Bucks fall short in acquiring Bogdanovic
  • Bogdanovic is set to enter free agency
  • Bucks settle for Holiday but may target other big names

Bogdan Bogdanovic’s next step remains unclear. Despite initial reports that he appeared headed to the Milwaukee Bucks, the 28-year-old never agreed to the move.

Hence, he remains free to pick the team of his choice and will enter restricted free agency.

Before this development that was divulged by Sam Amick of The Athletic, most were already resigned to the fact that the Sacramento Kings swingman was on his way to the Bucks to provide head coach Mike Budenholzer with added firepower.

But with this latest piece, it appears those plans have fizzled out.

So far, the only player the Bucks have added would be Jrue Holiday. They acquired the veteran guard from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Eric Bledsoe, George Hill, and three first-round picks, Shams Charania reported. Pick swaps are also involved.

it is an unfortunate development for the Bucks who would have been pretty formidable with Bogdanovic. But the looming botched deal complicates matters with all names and assets involved staying in Milwaukee for now.

Acquiring Bogdanovic would have also strengthened the Bucks' chances of re-signing Giannis Antetokounmpo. The two-time NBA MVP has yet to sign a five-year supermax extension, but adding more key players to help him and Khris Middleton would have raised their opportunity.

With the deal falling through, Bogdanovic is planning to enter restricted free agency and listen to offers from other NBA teams. Free agency starts Friday at 6:00 p.m. ET per ESPN.

Bogdanovic thumbed down a $51.4 million extension back in October and is believed to be seeking higher pay.

Aside from that, he could be looking to join a team that has better chances of winning while at the same time getting extended playing time.

If these are considered, it would be a mystery why he would not want to join the Bucks.

Whichever team gets Bogdanovic would benefit immensely. Last season, he played in 61 games averaging 15.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 29 minutes of action.

But it is his outside sniping that makes him a sensible target by most teams. Bogdanovic shot 53.2 percent from the field and 37.2 percent from the three-point region.

If not the Bucks, several teams could make a run at Bogdanovic. That list includes the Atlanta Hawks, Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, and New Orleans Pelicans per NBC Sports.
