Sony is launching “Reflections in Crystal,” the next major patch for “Final Fantasy XIV,” in just a few hours.

This update, Patch 5.3, brings what they promise to be a ton of new content for the “Shadowbringers” expansion. The post on the PlayStation Blog also featured updates for the growing Warriors of Light community.

Big changes are coming to the “Final Fantasy XIV Free Trial” as it expands to include the full base game, “A Realm Reborn,” and the complete first expansion, “Heavensward,” and all content updates through Patch 3.56.

This is the equivalent of two full “Final Fantasy” games for free, with no limit on the hundreds of hours of playtime that you can enjoy.

Among the other features now accessible to Free Trial players are the following:

  • The level cap for all classes and jobs for free trial has been increased to level 60.
  • Players can now try out a total of thirteen different jobs and classes, including the three jobs added with “Heavensward” — Dark Knight, Machinist, and Astrologian.
  • The Au Ra race is available to play as.
  • The Palace of the Dead has now been fully unlocked, and players can traverse as far as the deepest floor.

For those who already own “A Realm Reborn” or are planning on getting the Starter Edition, they will have access to these benefits as well as the “Heavensward” expansion.

The main scenario for “A Realm Reborn” will be both updated and streamlined to allow new players to experience the best of the story while also advancing to “Heavensward” and beyond faster.

"Reflections in Crystal" will also add the ability to fly using flying mounts in areas of “A Realm Reborn.” Players will need to complete the “A Realm Reborn” main scenario up through The Ultimate Weapon quest but can enjoy new views and much quicker travel through these areas.

“Final Fantasy XIV” is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for a 2010 release. Set in the fantasy realm of Eorzea, players take control of a customized avatar as they explore the land and are caught up in both an invasion by the hostile Garlean Empire and the threat of the Primals, the deities of the land's Beastmen tribes.

This is what the PlayStation Blog promises to be just the tip of the iceberg of what players can experience in "Reflections in Crystal." Whether playing for the first time or returning to experience this updated story, this new update plans to inject new life into “A Realm Reborn.”
