Hello Upper Eastsiders, "Gossip Girl" is back! WarnerMedia has ordered ten hour-long episodes for its new streaming service, HBO Max.

Joshua Safran, who will write and executive producer the new series, spoke with The Hollywood Reporter regarding the news.

"It's something we've been talking about for a little bit, just in terms of, 'Is this something we want to explore?'" he told THR of his conversations with series creators and fellow executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. "Then the stars aligned and we had availability to jump, and Warners, obviously, it's something they're very passionate about. It seemed like the best time and also the best way to do it."

Although the series, which originally ran from 2007-2012 on The CW, is indeed returning, Schwartz wants fans to know that the "Gossip Girl" coming to HBO Max is not what everyone is calling it.

"Not a reboot buddy!" he tweeted in response to a TV Line article detailing the news.

If it's not a reboot, then what is it?

Safran described the show as an "extension" of the original to THR.

"It's just a new look at this particular society in New York, the idea being that society changes constantly," Safran said. "So how has this world changed, how has social media and its effect changed? All of those things allow us to look at the world 12 years on as opposed to just redoing the story. None of us are interested in just redoing a story."

The logline for the updated "Gossip Girl" supports the writer's idea.

"Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl," it reads. "The prestige series will address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years."

At the time, there's no word on if any of the original cast will return or when the show will premiere. However, HBO Max is set to launch in the Spring of 2020.

XOXO, Gossip Girl
