The CW is reportedly currently in talks to revive "Gossip Girl." The CW

A "Gossip Girl" reboot at The CW may be happening, but diehard fans may not see any of the old cast, including Blake Lively's Serena and Leighton Meester's Blair, in it.

CW president Mark Pedowitz told TV Line at the Television Critics Association press tour last week that the network is in talks to revive "Gossip Girl." He revealed that there have been discussions to pick up the popular series about the rich residents of the Upper East Side, but nothing has been decided as of now.

Pedowitz added that "Gossip Girl" creators and executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. along with Warner Bros., would have the final say on the possible reboot. "I don't know what it would be. A lot is up to Warner Bros. and Josh and Steph 'cause you don't want to do anything without them," he said.

However, Schwartz and Savage may not be up for a "Gossip Girl" reboot. Schwartz revealed back in 2016 that they hadn't "really thought about" continuing the series or creating a spinoff. There is also another reason why they are hesitant to continue telling the story of "Gossip Girl."

"The Internet has changed," he said. "The world has become Gossip Girl now....Now, literally everyone is Gossip Girl."

As for the original "Gossip Girl" cast, most of them did not seem to be keen on reprising their old roles.

Meester, who played Blair Waldorf, revealed in a 2018 interview with Porter that "Gossip Girl" did not provide the "healthiest environment" for her as a young adult. And though she "wouldn't trade it for anything," she said that she felt "Gossip Girl" should just remain a memory.

"It is like saying, 'High school was an amazing time for you. Do you wish you could go back?' And the truth is, it was so special and such a unique, amazing experience, but no, I wouldn't wanna go back to it. I was a kid!" she said.

Meanwhile, Lively, who is married to Ryan Reynolds and has two children, isn't totally closing the door on a possible "Gossip Girl" reboot, but she also doesn't want to devote years to it. Lively said that the only reason she would film another "Gossip Girl" season would be if the plot was good.

"I’m looking to do something that I haven’t done yet, not something that I did. But would I do that? Who knows—if it was good, if it made sense," she explained to Variety. "We had so much fun shooting and living and working in New York City."

Aside from Meester and Lively, "Gossip Girl" also starred Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick, among many others, during its six-season run.
