New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Wednesday slammed President Trump over his lawsuit against expanded mail-in voting, claiming it is an attempt to “delegitimize” the election.

“As the president and his team try to delegitimize our election and impact the health and safety of millions of New Jerseyans, we will defend our rights vigorously, and we will not back down,” Murphy said at a press conference. “So as they say, ‘Bring it on.‘”

Due to health concerns amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Murphy signed an executive order Friday to send a modified mail-in ballot to every registered voter in the state ahead of the election. On Tuesday, the Trump campaign filed a lawsuit against the order, claiming it is unconstitutional and that Murphy does not have the authority to enact this policy.

Trump has frequently decried mail-in ballots, claiming that universal mail-in voting would “rig” the election and lead to higher voter fraud. Trump has also sought to slow down mail-in voting by denying additional funding to the U.S. Postal Service (USPS).

Trump has not backed up his voter fraud claims with evidence.

The Brennan Center for Justice, in a 2017 analysis, found that the risk of voter fraud was between 0.00004% to 0.0009% based on studies of past elections.
