A new Surface Laptop was revealed by Microsoft Tuesday, and it’s an incredibly thin Windows 10 S laptop specifically designed for college students. Here’s what we’ve learned about it including price, specs and release date.

In terms of hardware, the Microsoft Surface Laptop features a 13.5-inch screen with no visible bezel and 3.4 million pixels in the tradition of the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. It can be purchased in configurations with the latest Kaby Lake i5 and i7 processors with up to 1TB of SSD storage. The Surface Laptop’s most impressive feature, however, is quite possibly its battery life. Microsoft said its new Surface Laptop can last 14.5 hours on a single charge. If you’re keeping score, that’s quite a bit more than even the highest-tier MacBook Pro. The whole chassis weighs just 2.7 pounds.

It’s got a few interesting design aspects too. Its keyboard is lined with fabric to make the keys feel warm and ready for access. Below that typing surface are speakers that bring sound directly to the user.

It’s also designed to be a personalized product too. It comes in four different colors including burgundy, gold and blue.

Because the Surface Laptop is designed to run Windows 10 S, it carries the benefits and drawbacks associated with the new operating system. Logins and overall speed are expected to be blazing fast thanks to streamlined integration with the Microsoft ecosystem, but those who want to install apps outside the Microsoft Store will have to manually put Windows 10 Pro on it. The full OS will be free to upgrade for one year if yiu're a student. Others will have to pay $50.

As the headliner for Microsoft’s education event, the Surface Laptop was pitched as a product built to last through college. We think it might also be viable to business professionals or journalists who require quick access to a full-featured workspace.

Above all, the Surface Laptop emerged out of what Microsoft calls a "complete reexamination of the tablet market." By "removing every limit" in performance, design and speed, students should be able to produce high-quality products with limited interference. The product lines up with leaks that emerged on Monday.

Pre-orders for the Surface Laptop are available now for a starting price of $999. It will be sold everywhere starting June 15.
