KEY POINTS

  • 49ers expected to consider one of the talented wide receivers from the 2020 NFL Draft Class
  • San Francisco likely to pull off more surprises in the 2020 NFL Draft
  • 49ers not thinking of NFL Draft right now, focused on Super Bowl LIV

The San Francisco 49ers have a lot on their plate right now with the NFC title in mind. They are busy preparing for the Seattle Seahawks, a game that could catapult them to Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2, 2020, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Whether or not they make Super Bowl LIV, there is the 2020 NFL Draft happening two months after. And while they seem to have all bases covered, head coach Kyle Shanahan would be foolish not to look at the available wide receivers of that class.

San Francisco holds the rights to a pick in the latter part of the first round. Unless the 49ers opt to trade that right, there are several wide receivers they may want to consider. It should be noted that they did have selections in rounds 2 and 4. They ended up trading them for players like Emmanuel Sanders, Dante Pettis, and Deebo Samuel. Of the three, Pettis has been the one failing to reap dividends. But then again, Niner Noise pointed out that it may be too early to give up.

Among the top five names that Shanahan may want to check out include Quartney Davis, Bryan Edwards, Chase Claypool, Sage Surratt, and Brandon Aiyuk. These are names projected to be available by the time the 49ers get their chance, low-key names that could fit in with the 49ers system.

Aiyuk is seen as a good fit at wide receiver for San Francisco. Laviska Shenault of Colorado is another name but unlikely someone that will be available by the time the 49ers come around.

The Arizona State standout described as a silky-smooth operator who owns exceptional after-the-catch moves. He is compared to Sammy Watkins, the fourth pick in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Clemson. One can just imagine how Aiyuk would fare with the 49ers vaunted offense.

The 49ers may not be thinking 2020 NFL Draft for now but that does not mean they have not been scouting the class. General manager John Lynch and Shanahan's choices the past years have not been spared from criticism, most feeling they passed up on good players, Niners Nation reported. But then again, look at where that has brought the 49ers this NFL season?
