What looked like it might be a slow 2022 NFL trade deadline has turned out to be a very active one. Two teams that are in the playoff picture made significant additions to bolser their playoff hopes.

The Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins made the biggest trades on the day of the deadline. Minnesota acquired tight end T.J. Hockenson from the Detroit Lions. Miami made a pair of trades, picking up linebacker Bradley Chubb from the Denver Broncos and running back Jeff Wilson Jr. from the San Francisco 49ers.

The Lions received a 2023 second-round draft pick and a 2024 third-round pick, according to ESPN. In addition to Hockenson, the Vikings got a 2023 fourth-round pick and a conditional 2024 fourth-rounder in the trade.

Hockenson will replace Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr., who could miss 10 weeks with an injury. Hockenson ranks fifth among tight ends this season with 395 receiving yards. The No. 8 overall pick in the 2019 draft has 2,068 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in 47 career games.

The Vikings have a 6-1 record and are pulling away with the NFC North. No other team in the division has a winning record in Week 9.

The Dolphins are 5-3 and second in the AFC wild-card standings. Miami added playmakers on both offense and defense, seeking its first playoff appearances in six years.

Denver agreed to send Miami Chubb and a 2025 fifth-round pick. The Dolphins are sending the Broncos running back Chase Edmonds, a 2024 fourth-rounder and the San Francisco 49ers' 2023 first-round pick.

Chubb has 5.5 sacks in eight games. The 26-year-old has 26 sacks in 49 career games. Chubb is set to become a free agent after this season.

The 49ers sent Wilson to the Dolphins after making a trade for Christian McCaffrey two weeks ago. San Francisco receives a 2023 fifth-rounder in the deal, according to ESPN. Wilson has 468 rushing yards on 5.1 yards per attempt.

The Chicago Bears also acquired receiver Chase Claypool from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a second-round pick. Claypool gives Justin Fields another weapon on offense, though the Bears are 3-5 and an unlikely playoff team.

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt and Houston Texans receiver Brandin Cooks remain with their teams after heavy trade rumors.
