Las Vegas-- Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer is switching things up in a big way with her upcoming release, “Ma.” On Wednesday, Universal Pictures previewed the horror title by bringing the actress on stage alongside director Tate Taylor to tease its devilish plot.

In the film, Spencer portrays the lead character Sue Anne, who according to the 46-year-old, harbors a desire for revenge as a result of some adolescent bullying her character endured.

“It’s freaky y’all. I got to do some very disturbing, freaky things,” she teased. Freaky indeed. An extended look at the project showed Spencer’s character sewing the lips of a teen girl shut and appearing to threaten the high schoolers she surrounds herself with in the film.

“It was a blast making a thriller like Ma,” Spencer gushed.

The actress added that her newest role is even more mischievous than her character Minny Jackson in 2011’s “The Help,” which Tate wrote and directed.

“Minnie has definitely left the building,” Tate teased. “Octavia turned up her freak.”

“Ma” releases in theaters on May 31.
