Olivia Rodrigo has opened up about her ethnicity and how being a Filipino-American pop star has changed her approach to her music career.

The 18-year-old singer sometimes receives messages from little girls who say, "I've never seen someone who looked like me in your position," she said in an interview with V Magazine released Thursday.

According to Rodrigo, such messages make her emotional. "And I'm literally going to cry. Like just thinking about it," she added.

The "Good 4 U" singer recalled that growing up, she didn't see any pop star with an Asian ethnicity either.

"I feel like I grew up never seeing that. Also, it was always like, 'Popstar,' that's a white girl," she said.

The singer then reflected on her live performance on "Saturday Night Live."

"I just had no idea how I would react to that kind of audience and that sort of pressure," Rodrigo said. "I was like, 'Am I just going to go up there and freeze up?' Because it was literally my second performance. I had no idea. So it was kind of an anxiety-inducing thing, but it was so much fun."

She further noted that live music is an "important part of life and something that we've all been really missing in our lives."

"I think it's really fun as an artist to be able to cultivate experience for people," the singer said during the interview.

Rodrigo, who is a huge Lorde fan, also opened up how the New Zealander singer inspired her, especially when she saw her perform live at the Staples Center for the "Melodrama" tour.

According to the "driver license" singer, she went to the venue with their friends and they were crying at the show, where everyone was just "feeling everything together."

"Like 10,000 people were just feeling the exact same emotions as each other," she said. "And I just remember being like, 'That's such a magical experience.' I wanna be that type of artist who can really cultivate these feelings on such a large scale. So, hopefully, that's what I'll do when I go on tour."

Rodrigo then revealed she's looking forward to writing more music.

"Suddenly I can work with anyone I want to work with now, which is so crazy and gonna be a really fun thing to explore," she explained.

The singer dropped her first studio album, "Sour," on May 21. The album consists of 11 songs.
