Drew Barrymore has opened up about motherhood in a recent interview and revealed why she moved close to her ex-husband, Will Kopelman.

The 46-year-old actress appeared on "Oprah's Your Life in Focus" on Saturday and spoke about moving to New York City in order to keep her daughters — Olive, 8, and Frankie, 7, close to their father.

"I thought when I had kids, I wanted this really stable home," Barrymore told Oprah Winfrey. "Two parents was the goal."

"I ended up finding myself in divorce," she said. "Their dad moved to New York, I didn't want my children to be away from their father and I love his family. We're very close, and even though we had a divorce, we said, 'Let's not misstep. Let's just carry on like we are a family because we are a family.'"

Barrymore and Kopelman separated in 2016 but they continue to co-parent the kids together. Kopelman is engaged to Vogue's director of fashion development, Alexandra Michler. His sister announced the engagement in January.

The "Charlie's Angels" star also spoke about leaving her Los Angeles house where she lived for 20 years.

"For the first time in my life I thought, I know what family is and I'm not giving up on that," the actress said. "It was the home I built for myself. I'd had it for 20 years. It was the home I swore would be my kids. It was as hard as the divorce itself... I was doubling down on the giving up of the dream."

"I've now figured out what the definition of home is. It's wherever we are, it's wherever I am with my kids," Barrymore added.

Barrymore is a doting mother. She took to Instagram on Sunday to write a beautiful note on Mother's Day.

"And the fact that I get to be a mom too now... well its the most important thing I have ever done or will ever have the privilege of doing with my life," she wrote. "My Olive and my Frankie. I love you bigger than the universe."

The actress is currently hosting her own talk show, "The Drew Barrymore Show," on CBS.
