OITNB
Daya (Dascha Polanco) will have a hard decision to make when “Orange is the New Black” returns for Season 5. Netflix

Revolution is coming to Litchfield Women’s Prison in Season 5 of “Orange Is The New Black.” Netflix released a full length trailer for the show, which teases an uprising after the death of prisoner Poussey Washington.

Like the previous “OITNB” trailer, the latest picks up where Season 4 left off. Dayanara Diaz (Dascha Polanco) has gotten ahold of a gun and two Litchfield guards are staring down the barrel of it while angry prisoners urge her to pull the trigger. The moment captures the overall feeling in the prison following Poussey’s (Samira Wiley) fatal shooting.

Their shared rage transcends the various groups created within the prison population, which has been broken up by race, age, religion and the like. The ladies of Litchfield decide to come together to “speak as one,” in the hopes of having their voices heard and their demands met. Their fight won’t be easy, though — the authorities are determined to push back and push back hard.

In the trailer, viewers catch up with Piper Kerman (Taylor Schilling), Alex Vause (Laura Prepon), Tasty (Danielle Brooks), Red (Kate Mulgrew) and more. Piper’s determined to join the resistance, no matter the cost. The others are participating out of necessity and urging others to join the ranks.

The previous trailer, released on April 11, was significantly shorter. It focused on Daya and whether or not she’d pull the trigger. Other, less intense, moments were briefly featured as well.

So what’s going on in Litchfield in Season 5? Here’s what we learned from the latest trailer:

The Show’s Going To Get Political

The upcoming season of “OITNB” is going to take on some heavy issues as the prisoners react to Poussey’s shooting. The incident itself mirrored recent cases of police brutality, specifically the murder of Eric Garner. Season 5 will focus on issues within the prison system as the ladies of Litchfield protest their poor treatment.

There’s Going To Be An Uprising

Things are going to get ugly in Litchfield and it’s Poussey’s closest friends leading the resistance. Tasty, Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore), Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba), Aleida Diaz (Elizabeth Rodriguez), Flaca (Jackie Cruz), Maritza (Diane Guerrero) and more are teaming up, trying to enlist the help of other groups they’d otherwise avoid in the hopes of creating change in the facility. It seems most, if not all, of the ladies in Litchfield are ready to fight the power, but do they stand a chance against the authorities?

Group Lines Will Be Crossed

The “OITNB” Season 5 trailer shows Piper aligning herself with Tasty, Cindy and Allison (Amanda Stephen). It looks like she may not be the only one. Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning) is either going to urge her pals — who are, in no uncertain terms, racist — to stand up and fight for what’s right or seize the opportunity to take control of the prison.

Crazy Eyes Is On The Mend — As Is Her Relationship With Maureen (Emily Althaus)

The focus of the Season 5 trailer is the conflict within the prison, but there are some tender moments sprinkled throughout. The pair are shown spending time together, rehabbing after various injuries. Their bodies are healing as are their hearts, and it seems the couple will have eyes for each other once more.

Brook Soso’s (Kimiko Glenn) Getting Tough

Poussey’s girlfriend is going to channel her grief into something constructive in Season 5. In the “OITNB” trailer she’s shown getting physical. She’s known for her protest spirit, which will be useful.

Nicky Nichols (Natasha Lyonne) Is Back

Viewers get a glimpse of Nicky in the Season 5 “OITNB” trailer, which is exciting for fans of the show. She’s been somewhat MIA for a while on the Netflix series. It’s not clear how big a role she’ll play in Season 5, but we’re hopeful for a full return.

Boo (Lea DeLaria) Is Breaking Out

It appears that Boo will be leaving Litchfield in Season 5 of “OITNB.” While most would be elated to leave prison, especially amid serious tensions, she looks less than thrilled. Viewers can catch a glimpse at what appears to be her departure toward the end of the trailer, as she embraces Pennsatucky in a possible tearful goodbye.

There’s Going To Be An Element Of The Supernatural

OK, maybe not, but there is a fun moment in the “OITNB” Season 5 trailer in which Crazy Eyes and her pals try to summon a spirit. It’s likely that they’re trying to drum up Poussey, but the Crisco candle they’re using may not be the right tool for the job.

“OITNB” returns to Netflix for Season 5 June 9.
