The royal family modified the script of "Suits" as it sought to "control" Meghan Markle's final days as an actress, royal biographer Tom Bower has claimed.

Bower wrote in his book, "Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors," that the decision to step in was due to the palace's growing concern over how Markle was portrayed on the small screen ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, 7News reported.

"Fearing the worst, from bitter experience, the palace stepped in to control Meghan's life," he noted, as per the outlet. "Producer Aaron Korsh was told to submit all future 'Suits' scripts for Nick Collins, Meghan's agent. Manuscripts were then forwarded to Kensington Palace for approval. Orders for word changes were sent back from London to Los Angeles."

Prince Harry and Markle let the world know about their engagement in November 2018 after two years of dating. Following the announcement, Markle revealed she was giving up her career as an actress to welcome a "new chapter" in her life. She still had a few scenes to film for "Suits," where she played lawyer Rachel Zane, at the time.

Markle's final appearance in the series aired in April 2018, a month before her wedding to Prince Harry. The episode saw her character marry her longtime boyfriend, Mike Ross.

According to Bower, the palace asked the producers of the series not to release any photographs of Markle in her "Suits" wedding dress. "The most important demand concerned Meghan's last scene at her wedding to Mike," Bower explained. "No photographs, the Palace ordered, were to be shot of Meghan wearing a wedding dress."

"Between filming, she was always to wear a jacket over the dress. The atmosphere in the studio changed," he continued.

Bower also claimed that many of Markle's co-actors noticed how her attitude "stiffened" during her final days on the set. "Sometimes she arrived late and her empathy occasionally morphed into near-arrogance. Meghan had markedly shifted from the early days when she held a prayer meeting with the 'Suits' cast before filming started," he wrote.

Bower's book has made headlines for its explosive revelations about Markle and the royal family. Earlier this month, a journalist slammed the royal biographer for his alleged derogatory claims against the Duchess of Sussex, asking him to let Markle live in peace.
