The 38th Annual People's Choice Awards 2012 was held Wednesday in Los Angeles, celebrating a year of fan-favorites including Demi Lovato, Nina Dobrev, Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris, Adam Levine and no-show Katy Perry.

The stars were out in full force and the red carpet dazzled with jewel tones this year. Demi Lovato, who was a favorite of the night, led the pack in an mandarin-hued Marchesa gown with gemstone-encrusted bodice.

All eyes were on Loavto, who has overcame a multitude of personal struggles last year. She performed a song, Give Your Heart A Break, off her track Unbroken for the crowd. Twitter was abuzz with messages for the former Disney star. While some criticized her performance, most had nothing but kind words for the 19-year-old.

My son is drooling over Demi Lovato on the people's choice awards. I remember there was a time he shunned girls, Tweeted one. She suffered from bulimia, anorexia, cutting, depression & a eating disorder, and now she's performing at the PCAs. Good Luck Demi Lovato, tweeted another.

During her performance, Lovato changed into a flowing, ruby gown by Issa.

Other red carpet stunners included Emma Stone and Kelly Osbourne. Emma Stone embraced menswear-chic in a Gucci suit with emerald green blazer and Tiffany & Co. jewelry. The 27-year-old Osbourne, who is an E! fashion correspondent, did her role as style guru justice in an Honor dress with Casadei heels and Roseark jewels.

Another beauty was Canadian actress Nina Dobrev, star of the CW hit The Vampire Diaries, who looked enviable in a peridot green Elie Saab dress with sheer lace sleeves.

Though noticeably absent, the California Girls singer was honored in five categories including favorite female artist, tour headliner, song of the year for E.T. with Kanye West, music video for Last Friday Night and TV guest star for How I Met Your Mother.

Perry let fans know earlier in the week via Twitter that she would not be attending the People's Choice Awards this year, presumably due to her divorce from husband Russell Brand, but made sure to thank them. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!

Emma Stone was another winner, taking home two trophies. I moved to L.A. eight years ago this week with my mom, who's right there, Stone said while accepting her two crystal trophies. It is so insane to be standing up here right now. It is hard to describe to you.
