  • The organizer said Kanye West’s social media attacks against Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson prompted the petition
  • The petition came after West was suspended from Instagram following his use of a racial slur to mock Trevor Noah
  • West was pulled from performing at the 2022 Grammys due to his "concerning online behavior"

A petition that was launched by fans to remove Kanye West from the 2022 Coachella lineup is gaining traction online.

The "Donda" artist, who was recently pulled from performing at the 2022 Grammys due to his "concerning online behavior," is set to headline Day 3 of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival next month.

However, as of Monday evening, over 27,000 people have signed a petition on Change.org titled "Remove Kanye from Coachella!"

A user named Caramello Marie launched the petition Thursday, citing West's social media attacks against his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her boyfriend Pete Davidson as the reason for the online call-to-action.

The petition also came after the Yeezy founder was suspended from Instagram following his use of a racial slur to mock Trevor Noah after the "Daily Show" host questioned West's treatment of Kardashian, calling it "terrifying to watch."

"We have watched Kanye harass, manipulate and hurt Kim, Pete and others for over a year now. No one seems to want to stand up to him, and the ones that do, he puts under fire as well," the petition's description read.

"Most recently, he has been threatening actual bodily harm on others," it continued. "[It] is ridiculous that he is allowed to freely do this. Coachella (along with other brand names that are still working with him) should be ashamed of themselves and should not be giving him any more of a platform."

People who signed the petition backed up the organizer's reason for requesting West's removal as Coachella headliner.

"I genuinely believe that Kanye has been an abusive and toxic man and should not be given this platform after everything that has happened. He needs to be held accountable," one wrote.

"I signed because he is displaying behavior that is frightening. He does this in public, can you imagine how he conducts himself in private? He needs professional help before something tragic happens," another explained.

Over the weekend, a rep for West confirmed to People that the rapper has been prohibited from performing at the upcoming Grammy Awards. West's online attack on Noah, who is hosting this year's show, was a factor in the decision-making process, The Blast reported.

An unnamed source close to Noah told CNN that the TV personality wasn't involved in the decision to pull West from the list of Grammy performers and has not had any conversations with producers about the rapper.

The "Daily Show" host has since responded to the news that West has been barred from taking the stage at the awards show.

"I said counsel Kanye[,] not cancel Kanye," Noah tweeted.

West is nominated for five Grammys this year, four of which are for his work on his album "Donda." These include nods for best rap song ("Jail"), best melodic rap performance ("Hurricane"), best rap album and album of the year. He is also nominated for album of the year as a producer for Lil Nas X's debut album "Montero."

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards will air on CBS on April 3.

Meanwhile, Coachella will take place in Indio, California, from April 15-17 and April 22-24. In addition to West, Billie Eilish and Harry Styles are also set to headline the festival.
