  • Pierce Brosnan said Regé-Jean Page would be wonderful as the next James Bond
  • Brosnan also wished Page "good luck" amid rumors that he could be the next agent 007
  • Producers are in talks with Page, but they are also considering Henry Cavill and George MacKay

Pierce Brosnan has reacted to the rumors that Regé-Jean Page could be playing the next James Bond.

Brosnan starred in multiple Bond movies from 1995 to 2002. He appeared in "GoldenEye," "Tomorrow Never Dies," "The World Is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day."

In his recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Brosnan was asked about the rumors of the "Bridgerton" star possibly taking over the role after Daniel Craig.

"Good luck, good luck," the "Cinderella" star said while smiling. "I think he would be wonderful."

The rumors about Page being the favorite for the next Bond film have been circulating for months. Just a few days ago, an unnamed source told Page Six that the producers of the franchise is actively in talks with the 31-year-old actor. "Man of Steel" star Henry Cavill, 38, who auditioned for "Casino Royale," and "1917" star George MacKay, 29, are also being considered for the role.

"They are talking about Regé, but Bond producers are not making any decisions until after ‘No Time to Die’ is released. They are focusing on Daniel Craig’s big finale," the insider told the outlet. "But Henry Cavill also is still in the running, he’s a lot more famous now than when his name first came up."

The tipster added, "One other name is George MacKay. One of the producers of ‘1917’ has come over to Bond and is suggesting George. There is some talk about rebooting the Bond franchise after Daniel Craig with someone younger, and he could fit the bill."

Page fueled the rumors when he tweeted a reference to a famous Bond line in December, "Regency, royalty. Shaken and stirred." However, he cleared up the rumors when he appeared on Jimmy Fallon's "The Tonight Show" in January.

The host directly asked him about being the frontrunner for the role of the peerless spy agent 007. However, he just laughed it off.

"I think the internet thinks a lot of things, and that's one of the more pleasant ones. So I can please as far as that goes," he replied while smiling.

"I think there might be an element of cultural translation to be done here. Like if you're a Brit, and you do something of any kind of renown that people regard well, then people start saying the B-word… It's like a merit badge, like the B-word merit badge; I'm very, very glad to have the badge. I'm glad to be in such [a] wonderful company of people who have the badge. But it's a badge."

Fallon laughed and told him he believed the actor would be fantastic for the role.
