A plane carrying 126 people from the Dominican Republic caught on fire Tuesday after it landed at Miami International Airport. Three people were reported injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

The plane is believed to have caught on fire due to a landing gear malfunction. Miami-Dade police picked up the stranded RED Air passengers as the fire crews got the fire under control. They were able to put the fire out eventually, according to Miami International Airport.

“Shout out Miami-Dade. Picking up all the passengers: looks like they all made it. Thank God,” a man said in a video recording of the scene posted to Twitter.

The plane remained on the runway Wednesday morning.

RED Air only flies between Santa Domingo and Miami and has only been operating since November 2021.

Some flights were delayed as a result of the fire, Miami International Airport said.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by a team of investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board on Wednesday.

“NTSB is sending a team of investigators to Miami following today's gear collapse and runway excursion of an MD-82 jetliner at Miami International Airport. Investigators will arrive on scene tomorrow,” NTSB said in a tweet Tuesday night.
