KEY POINTS

  • Arsenal won't renew Ceballos loan
  • Ceballos is unlikely to have a spot on Real Madrid
  • Sevilla interest could be revisited

Arsenal FC has no plans of bringing back Dani Ceballos once the current season officially comes to a close. Once touted as someone the Gunners could do well to absorb, it appears a change at the helm has turned the tide.

The 23-year-old joined Arsenal on loan when the club was still handled by Unai Emery last summer. But as most know, it is Mikel Arteta who is now calling the shots. Since then, he has not fully utilized the Spanish footballer and even kept him in the freezer when he took over back in December. Arteta eventually re-inserted Ceballos, one that included seeing him start in Arsenal's last three Premier League games before play was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With no purchase option included in the loan agreement with Real Madrid, this season may be the last most would see Ceballos in an Arsenal uniform, El Confidencial reported. Sevilla FC was previously linked to the Spaniard but Ceballos ruled out a potential move to that team.

The sudden turn of events comes as a surprise with hype seeming hinting that Ceballos was most likely to stay at the Emirates Stadium. Former manager Emery saw great potential in the 23-year-old but apparently, he is not part of Arteta's plans moving forward.

A plausible scenario would see him reunite with Real Madrid. However, he has not exactly impressed Zinedine Zidane. Also, Ceballos is fully aware that he may have a hard time cracking the first team. In a previous post, it was mentioned how the dressing room was already filled with high profile personalities. Should that be the case, Ceballos' future is left hanging in the air.

"Hopefully. I now have a contract with Arsenal. At the moment in Madrid, it is difficult to play with the players that are there. Now I am focused on being important at a club,” Ceballos said in an interview with Movistar.

Ceballos will just have to wait and see what the future holds. It may be hard but he will need to focus on honoring his current arrangement with the Gunners. If Los Blancos does get him back, he could be offered to other teams as well. That said, that interest by Sevilla could be worth reconsidering if Zidane has no place for him next season.
