  • Real Madrid is reportedly ready to unload Rodriguez
  • Real is trying to find ways to fix financial needs
  • United is unlikely to bite Real's offer

Real Madrid and Manchester United are locked in a race for the services of Donny van de Beek of Ajax.

However, the former is pressed for cash. It needs to unload some players who are considered surplus. One of those players is the 2014 Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez, someone who the Red Devils have been longing to get. To further entice United, Los Blancos is even willing to offer the 28-year-old for a fraction of the original price they paid ($80 million) to get him in 2014.

According to The Sun, it appears Real is pretty desperate to raise funds to get their hands on van de Beek. If United bites, that would be a big boost chance for Los Blancos. But the only problem seen here is that the two clubs are after the same guy. Hence, the Red Devils would technically be in the lead if they pass on Rodriguez. Considering that he has been used sparingly, the chances of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking them up on the offer are not looking good.

Since joining Real Madrid, Rodriguez has not exactly been doing well. He is considered surplus talent, spending two years on loan to Bayern Munich. He returned last summer but has not exactly performed well under Zinedine Zidane. He is earning roughly $319,000 a week and dealing him off will increase the chances of Los Blancos in their pursuit of van de Beek.

In a previous post, Solskjaer hinted that he will slow down on recruitment. He feels that the Red Devils have enough talent to make it through the rest of the season after resolving the loan deal of Odion Ighalo. Further, it appears United is saving up for big moves in the summer. Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish are reportedly their targets. Aside from their $112 million cash reserves, Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward has infused another $175 million via loan. With money on standby, the next moves of the Red Devils are unlikely to go down until after the current season.

As for Real Madrid, offering Rodriguez is one way to free up some financial woes on their end. The only problem is that United is unlikely to bite although anything can happen. Negotiations could end up with a win-win situation. Rodriguez could recall his old form and become another offensive option for Solskjaer.
