Naomi Biden, the eldest grandchild of President Joe Biden, married Peter Neal late Saturday morning on the South Lawn of the White House.

There were roughly 250 guests in attendance. Naomi Biden's sister, Finnegan, was the maid of honor, while Neal's brother, Robert, served as the best man.

Naomi Biden is the first grandchild of a sitting president to have a wedding at the White House.

"It has been a joy to watch Naomi grow, discover who she is, and carve out such an incredible life for herself," said Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden in a statement on the White House website.

"Now, we are filled with pride to see her choose Peter as her husband and we're honored to welcome him to our family. We wish them days full of laughter and a love that grows deeper with every passing year," the statement read.

Temperatures in Washington had dipped into the low 40s. The Washington Post noted that guests were told to dress warmly and not use cellphones.

The guest list included the extended Biden family along with close friends and family of the couple, CNN reported. There was no media presence at the wedding.

Sources said that the couple both wore attire designed by Ralph Lauren.

After the wedding, Joe and Jill Biden hosted a wedding luncheon for the family and the wedding party in the State Dining Room of the White House. Later in the evening, there was a reception with dessert and dancing, according to the White House.

Naomi Biden, 28, is the daughter of Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden and his first wife Kathleen Buhle.

Naomi Biden is a lawyer in Washington. She reportedly played an influential role in persuading Joe Biden to run for president in 2020.

Neal, 25, recently graduated from law school and works at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington.

They met in 2018 on a date arranged by a mutual friend. The couple reportedly live on the third floor of the White House.

Joe Biden has seven grandchildren. He turned 80 years old on Sunday, making him the first octogenarian president.
