Prince Andrew was dubbed as the Playboy Prince because he was regarded as the most good-looking son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. As such, models and beautiful women wanted to date him.

But the Duke of York opted to wed Sarah Ferguson shortly after meeting her through Princess Diana. And even the Duchess of York was shocked by her ex-husband’s decision.

In her book “My Story,” the mom of two acknowledged the fact that Prince Andrew had a lot of options when it comes to a woman that he could marry.

“Why did Prince Andrew marry me, he could have married a lovely model, he had hundreds of models chasing him, but he married funny old me and that’s because it was meant to be. All I knew is that I would go anywhere for love. I do believe in romance and that wonderful moment where you fall in love and you are just so with your man that you are like under the skin,” she said.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson tied the knot on July 23, 1986, at Westminster Abbey. The couple’s marriage was blissful until Fergie came face to face with the reality that her husband was never around. During the early years of their relationship, the Duke of York had to serve in the Royal Navy.

In her book, Ferguson complained about not having much time to spend with Prince Andrew. Eventually, this became one of the reasons why the couple separated.

But during the couple’s separation in 1992, Prince Andrew and Ferguson still wanted to make their relationship work. However, the mom of two became involved with the business tycoon, John Bryan. The couple had an affair and they were photographed in a compromising position.

The Queen and Prince Philip saw the photo on the cover of the tabloid and they were furious at Ferguson. Shortly after, the Queen encouraged Prince Andrew and Fergie to divorce.
