Prince Charles could be closer to Princess Charlotte than Prince George for a poignant reason.

In Andrew Morton’s book, “Diana: Her True Story,” it has been revealed that Prince Charles always wanted to have a baby girl. When he learned that his and Princess Diana’s second child, Prince Harry, was a boy, he was reportedly disappointed.

Princess Diana was hurt by her husband’s comments and declared that their marriage went down the drain because of it. In 2014, Prince Charles expressed his hope for Prince William and Kate Middleton to have a girl since their firstborn was a boy.

Months later, he got his wish when Middleton gave birth to Princess Charlotte. Prince Charles finally got his wish and this could be a huge reason why he is closer to Princess Charlotte than Prince George.

But this doesn’t mean the future king doesn’t share a special bond with his eldest grandson. In BBC’s documentary to commemorate Prince Charles’ 70th birthday, he said that he planted several trees in the palace’s garden after Prince George was born in 2013.

“I hope it will be quite amusing for George, as they grow up, and he grows up,” he said (via Express).

In related news, Prince Charles also made headlines this week after his interview with Vanity Fair was released. He opened up about his climate change, an issue that is very close to his heart.

“One of my duties has been to find solutions to the vast challenges we face over accelerating climate change… However, it seems to take forever to alert people to the scale of the challenge. Over 40 years ago, I remember making a speech about the problems of plastic and other waste, but at that stage, nobody was really interested and I was considered old-fashioned, out of touch, and anti-science for warning of such things. If we don’t engage with these issues, and many other related and critical problems that they inevitably compound, we will all be victims. Nothing escapes,” he said.
