Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, are among the senior royals with a happy marriage.

Unlike his siblings Prince Charles, Prince Andrew and Princess Anne, Prince Edward’s marriage is going strong. The Earl of Wessex is the only child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip whose first marriage hasn’t ended in divorce.

According to Jess Sheldon, a journalist for Express, Prince Edward and Sophie’s romance “could have been written in the stars.” Based on astrology, Sophie is an Aquarius, while Prince Edward is a Pisces. Their love compatibility analysis revealed that they are a “love match.” There is apparently a lot of “compassion and creation” between the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

“It’s their mutual interest in cultivating knowledge and accepting modern and cosmopolitan ideas,” the analysis explained. “They are well matched in their enthusiasm, energy, and desire for a sincere, open and honest relationship.”

Aside from their compatibility based on astrology, royal expert Ingrid Seward also said that Prince Edward is adamant about not repeating his older siblings’ mistakes after witnessing his brothers' and sister’s failed marriages.

“The failures of the marriages of his besloved sister Anne and then, in rapid and ever more embarrassing succession, Andrew and Charles, made Edward even more determined to put caution before commitment,” Seward wrote in her book, “ Prince Edward: A Biography.”

Prince Edward knew that as a member of the royal family, he would not have a normal relationship because when they start to date someone, that person tends to suffer from stigma for the rest of his or her life.

So when he started dating Sophie, Countess of Wessex, the earl immediately warned the media to leave his girlfriend alone. Prince Edward also explained at the time that he and Sophie were not getting married yet, but if they do, he would let them know in a proper and formal manner.

“I am very conscious that other members of my immediate family have been subjected to similar attention and it has not been at all beneficial to their relationships,” Prince Edward stated.

When Prince Edward and Sophie’s romance first leaked to the media, he blamed Sarah Ferguson. Queen Elizabeth II, who was very fond of the Duchess of York, reportedly came to her defense and summoned her son for accusing Prince Andrew’s then-wife of disloyalty without proof. It was later revealed that the one who leaked Prince Edward and Sophie’s romance was an employee of the royal family.
