Prince George and Princess Charlotte have a fun tradition during Christmas that they enjoy while at their grandmother Carole Middleton’s home.

During her recent interview with The Telegraph, the grandmother of five said that she makes Christmas a little bit more special for her grandchildren by setting up more than one large Christmas tree in her home.

One of the huge trees are placed inside her grandchildren’s home, and they are allowed to decorate it themselves. Throughout the years, Prince George and Princess Charlotte have celebrated the holidays with both sides of their family.

Ahead of Christmas Eve, they attended Queen Elizabeth II’s annual Christmas lunch at the Buckingham Palace. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were previously divided between the royal household and the Middleton household, but this setup will change starting this year.

“Moving forward, Kate and William will continue to do Sandringham every Christmas Eve and Day as opposed to alternating like they used to,” a source told US Weekly.

The insider also said the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and their three children will visit the Middleton family in Berkshire after Dec. 25. The source said that one of the reasons for the sudden change in schedule is the Queen and Prince Philip’s advancing ages.

“Skipping years isn’t an option anymore,” the source said.

The Queen is 92 years old, and Prince Philip is 97. The Duke of Edinburgh has resigned from his royal duties last year. Her Majesty, on the other hand, still serves as the reigning monarch, but she has also passed on some of her roles to Prince Charles.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that the Queen won’t abdicate from the throne as long as she’s alive and well. Royal expert Robert Jobson praised Her Majesty for what she has done throughout the years. He said that the Queen will continue to pass on her duties to her eldest son, but she will never abdicate.

Prince Charles took on additional roles for the Queen. In November, he led the nation during the Remembrance Sunday. He also traveled to Africa for an overseas tour of the Commonwealth nations.
