Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently shared a never-before-seen photo from their trip to Botswana two years ago.

The picture, which features the Duke and Duchess of Sussex placing a tracking collar on an elephant, was uploaded on the royal couple’s new Instagram account.

In the caption, it was revealed that Markle and Prince Harry flew to Botswana to assist Dr. Mike Chase of Elephants Without Borders in equipping a bull elephant with a satellite collar. The tracking collar would allow conservationists to project him and other elephants from poachers.

Prior to installing the tracking collar, the elephant was first sedated for 10 minutes. Immediately after the procedure, the elephant returned to its herd.

Africa holds a special place in Prince Harry’s heart, and he has also focused much of his conservation work in the country. At present, he is the president of African Parks and he is also the patron of the Rhino Conservation Botswana.

The country also holds a special place in Markle’s heart since this is where their romance strengthened. After dating for a couple of days, Prince Harry asked Markle to join him on a trip to Africa, and they instantly fell in love with each other.

During their engagement interview with BBC, Prince Harry shared details from their first trip to Africa.

“I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana. We camped out with each other under the stars… She came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic… So then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial for me to make sure that we had a chance to know each other,” he said.

One year later, Prince Harry and Markle decided to tie the knot at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Five months after their May 19, 2018 wedding, Prince Harry and Markle announced that they are expecting their first child together via Kensington Palace.
