Prince William previously asked the palace to set up a support hotline when he started dating Kate Middleton.

Several years ago, the Duke of Cambridge became increasingly concerned for his then girlfriend’s safety and security. In the book “Kate: The Future Queen,” royal biographer Katie Nicholl said that the future king also wanted to make sure that Middleton would have all the support she needed to adjust to her new life as a royal.

The request was made by Prince William after he learned that the paparazzi managed to track Middleton in her home and snapped photos of her doing her daily routine.

“William was aware of the situation and anxious about it. He had seen firsthand how his mother had been harassed by the paparazzi and was determined that Kate not be subjected to the same treatment,” Nicholl said.

Prince William had a direct hotline for Middleton installed for the press office at St. James’s Palace and another one was set up with Prince Charles’ head of press, Paddy Harverson.

“We had been introduced to Kate early on, and we were instructed from the outset to give her every support possible. She was obviously the subject of a lot of press interest and intrusion from the paparazzi… William said we had a duty of care to her and her family and so we advised her on how to deal with the cameras,” a senior press aide to Nicholl.

The source added that they instructed the mom of three to smile at the photographers so that there would be better pictures of her. Middleton was also given advice on how to manage the media, and the palace aides were there to support her in times of crisis.

After dating for a couple of years, Prince William and Middleton decided to tie the knot on April 29, 2011. As of late, they already have three adorable children together.
