Prince William has to learn something from Prince Andrew.

The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of York have a number of similarities. Both served in the military before taking up royal duties. Prince Andrew used to serve the navy before becoming an unpaid special representative for UK trade and investment. On the other hand, Prince William was an ambulance pilot.

In BBC’s “The Problem Princes” which was released in 2009, the documentary encouraged Prince William to take his cues from Prince Andrew. “William will have to prove to the public that he will be value for money," the narrator said.

The documentary stressed that the second in line to the throne should be frugal as the royal family has been repeatedly under fire for their expenses, especially Prince Andrew. “William should look no further than the previous pair to the heir, his uncle Andrew," the narrator continued.

The Duke of York has earned the “Air Miles Andy” moniker due to his outrageous travel expenses. When Prince Andrew flew to other countries for an engagement, he usually travels with five officials, flies first on chartered planes and stays at five-star hotels.

Opting for expensive accommodation is very costly for Prince Andrew because his royal protection officers have to stay there as well, which adds to his accommodation expenses.

Dai Davies, a former head of Scotland Yard’s royal protection squad, confirmed that Prince Andrew’s travels aren’t cheap. The Duke of York was already advised by business consultants to cut his travel costs.

Aside from Prince Andrew, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles are among the royals who spend a lot for their overseas engagements. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s South Asia tour was the most expensive royal trip in 2018, with the couple spending a whopping $13,075,660 for their India trip alone. Prince Charles and Camilla spent another $81,263 when they visited Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.

Prince William and Kate Middleton also travel to other countries together, but their expenses weren’t as high as the senior royals’.

In related news, royals experts believe that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may have another baby after Prince Louis. According to Angela Mollard on New Idea’s “Royals” podcast, Middleton “really, really wants that fourth child.” She added that the royal mom of three loves children and wants to give her youngest son another sibling.
