  • Christopher Andersen weighed in on the Queen's announcement that Camilla will be queen consort when Prince Charles becomes king
  • The royal author claimed Prince Harry and Prince William were "completely blindsided" by the announcement
  • He also claimed that the decision is "driving a wedge" in the royal family

A royal author has claimed that not everyone in the royal family is on board with Queen Elizabeth's decision regarding the future title of Prince Charles' wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

As she celebrated 70 years on the throne earlier this month, the Queen announced that Camilla will be known as queen consort when Prince Charles becomes king.

However, author Christopher Andersen claimed that this decision may be causing a divide for Prince Harry and Prince William with other family members.

"It's just whether or not they can get over this bad feeling. Then, of course, Queen [Elizabeth II]'s health and these other considerations are there. I don't think it helped with the queen announcing that Duchess Camilla will be Queen Consort and that’s another issue," Andersen told Us Weekly Tuesday while promoting his book "Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan."

He further claimed that the decision is "driving a wedge" in the royal family.

"I can tell you right now that the boys were completely blindsided by this," Andersen added.

The 95-year-old monarch opened up about her wishes for the future of the U.K. monarchy earlier this month.

"When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me," the Queen wrote in a statement released Feb. 5. "And it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."

Andersen claimed that Prince Charles, who wed Duchess Camilla in 2005 following his 1996 divorce from the late Princess Diana, was "relentlessly" pushing for his wife to receive the title of queen consort.

The "Game of Crowns" author added that he believes the Duke of Cornwall wants a partner when he becomes king just like his mother had in his late father, Prince Philip.

"Charles just wore her down on this too. I also think that since the death of Prince Philip, Charles has stepped up his effort to make it clear to the queen that he too needs [a partner]," Andersen claimed, referring to Prince Philip's April 2021 passing. "If he’s going to reign, he's going to need the support, the kind of support that she got from [her husband]."

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla previously released their own statement in response to the Queen's decision, saying that they are "deeply conscious of the honor represented by" the monarch's wish.

"As we have sought together to serve and support Her Majesty and the people of our communities, my darling wife has been my own steadfast support throughout," their statement read.

Prince Harry has remained mum about his stepmother Camilla's future queen consort title. However, he recently said that he will continue his mom Princess Diana's "unfinished" work in raising awareness about HIV/AIDS.

"I feel obligated to try and continue that as much as possible," Prince Harry said. "I could never fill her shoes, especially in this particular space, but because of what she did and what she stood for and how vocal she was about this issue… it's a converging of all these different pieces."

On the other hand, Rebecca English, royal editor for the Daily Mail, claimed that Prince William supported the Queen's decision. She cited a "well-placed" anonymous palace source who allegedly said that the Duke of Cambridge was "supportive" of his grandmother's decision and respects the Queen's judgment.
