Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle often gain a slew of mixed reactions from royal fans. And there’s a reason why this may be the case.

In the article he wrote for The Telegraph, royal expert Patrick Jephson said that when royal thought is stoked by raw emotion, the results can veer from being endearing to mockable and downright worrying.

“How else to describe the public spasm of anger that soured the sweet success of Harry’s Africa tour and now condemns him and his family to long term legal conflict with half of Fleet Street? Hard fought litigation could quickly put global, warming in the shade as a cause of bad Frogmore mornings,” he said.

Jephson also said that the royal couples are walking down their own paths, but they are also channeling the spirit of Princess Diana.

“Diana’s sons and their wives have literally and figuratively followed in her footsteps; even with William’s encounter with bad flying weather in Pakistan was foreshadowed by his mother’s in 1991, when her Queen’s Flight aircraft was grounded by a violent thunderstorm,” he said.

But Jephson also claimed that the most revealing similarity and difference between the royal siblings lie on how they echoed Princess Diana’s way of revealing her own feelings especially while they are on tour because it involves hard work, and they also need to achieve a lot of things to benefit the interests of the British public.

“Winning hearts and minds are a key objective, and that requires the successful deployment of those most unstable royal weapons: public displays of emotion,” he said. But the invisible rewards from the things that they do are also very priceless.

Meanwhile, Jephson also recounted the time that he worked for Princess Diana and said that during the late royal’s trip to South Africa, she decided to stay behind to tuck the children in bed even when there were no cameras around. Princess Diana even broke down in tears while tucking the children in, which proved how genuine she was.

While in Pakistan, Prince William didn’t cry but he said that he was a big fan of his late mother.
