Princess Diana’s biographer, Andrew Morton, initially wanted to keep the late royal’s accounts private. But he eventually decided to share them with the world via his book.

While speaking with the Huffington Post, royal author Morton said that he had reservations about telling the world about Princess Diana’s story for fear that people won’t believe him. And true enough, after the release of “Diana: Her True Story – In Her Own Words,” Morton was called a liar by royal fans.

The royal biographer also said that he assumed he would die before Princess Diana, which means that he would’ve taken the Princess of Wales’ stories to his grave. But Princess Diana died much earlier following a fatal car crash in Paris.

In his last will and testament, Morton also said that he wants Princess Diana’s interview tapes to be given to Sussex University, which proves that he really didn’t want to release the late royal’s accounts.

However, Morton had a change of heart one day. Following Princess Diana’s shocking demise, the royal author Morton had a conversation with his publisher and they both took some time to decide on their next move.

Morton eventually decided to include Princess Diana’s interview on six tapes in his book because the entire world wanted to know what her life was really like as a member of the royal family.

“ We had a long discussion about the need to revise the book, but if we did, should we use the tapes? It was not a decision we took lightly. I could have just reissued the first book, then gone to a beach… But, in the end, we thought we should use them because people had this great need for openness and honesty… Lord Spencer’s funeral oration got applause, because he spoke from the hip, and everyone wanted that. We couldn’t do it.” Morton said.

The reprint of “Diana: Her True Story – In Her Own Words” included Princess Diana’s interviews. Morton’s book ended up on the bestseller lists.
