Princess Diana craved cuddles from her parents growing up due to a sad reason.

Andrew Morton, a royal author, penned an article for The Sun, where he shared stories about the late Princess of Wales. In his book “Diana, Her True Story,” Morton revealed how Princess Diana told him that the sound of her mother marching across the gravel courtyard and driving off in her car and out of her life stained her memory.

This could be one of the reasons why Princess Diana made sure that her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, would grow up to have normal and happy childhoods.

“She told me she had everything she wanted materially, but none of the hugs and love that Archie is enjoying. Diana remembered craving cuddles from her mom and dad but never receiving them,” he said.

While she was growing up, the void that Princess Diana’s mom left was filled by a succession of nannies. However, not all of the royal’s nannies treated her and her siblings well. One of them fed her and her brother Charles Spencer laxatives as their punishment.

When Princess Diana wed Prince Charles, she wanted to make sure that their children would have the best life. She also tried to do things differently. For instance, she opted to send her sons to an actual school instead of being home-schooled. She also employed an elderly nanny to look after them.

“Diana realized her husband was simply replicating royal tradition. As she told me, ‘I don’t want them hidden away in the attic with the governess.’” Morton said.

And now that she has a fourth grandchild, Archie Harrison, Princess Diana would be more than pleased to know that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to raise him as normal as possible.

Unfortunately, Princess Diana would never get to meet her adorable grandchild, who wasn’t given a royal title by his parents following his birth on May 6.
