Princess Diana wanted to blow up the “golden couple myth” once and for all while she was married to Prince Charles.

In the book “The Diana Chronicles” by Tina Brown, it was revealed that by 1989, Princess Diana felt extremely tortured by the subterfuge of her unhappy marriage. She saw her union with Prince Charles as an absurd and elaborate royal dumb show because the royal couple had to project that they were happy.

Due to this, Princess Diana tried to express herself during ominous confrontations. At one point, the late Princess of Wales deliberately attended a party organized by Camilla Parker Bowles and Andrew Bowles to confront the Duchess of Cornwall about her relationship with Prince Charles.

All hell broke loose when Princess Diana entered the venue and told Camilla – straight to her face – that she was aware of what has been going on between her and the Prince of Wales.

“It must have been thrilling for Diana – an act of rejection of all the suffocating social norms she had been brought up with,” Brown wrote.

Following the explosive incident, Princess Diana found herself craving for similar confrontations. While at a Spencer family wedding, she initiated an argument with her stepmother, Lady Raine Spencer. According to the author, Princess Diana screamed and pushed Lady Raine down the stairs.

“It gave me enormous satisfaction, Diana later told her voice coach Peter Settelen. I was so angry,” Brown said.

Princess Diana and Prince Charles tied the knot in 1981, but their marriage only lasted for 11 years. In 1992, the couple announced their separation. And in 1996, their divorce was finalized. One year later, Princess Diana passed away following a fatal car crash in Paris.

The Prince and Princess of Wales struggled with their differences throughout their marriage. Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom was also aware of Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla even before they tied the knot.

Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, told Express that Princess Diana didn’t really want to divorce Prince Charles because of their two children. However, Queen Elizabeth II didn’t agree with her and ordered them to divorce.
