Princess Diana and Meghan Markle’s respective royal engagements have just been compared.

Jess Sheldon, a journalist for Express, started the comparison by discussing Markle and Princess Diana’s outfits of choice. Markle wore a stylish white coat during her first public appearance post-engagement to Prince Harry. Underneath the white coat is a green mid-length skirt, which she paired with her nude stilettos.

Many years earlier, Prince Charles and Princess Diana stepped out following their royal engagement in 1981. In one of the snaps, the royal couple are seen walking hand in hand. Prince Charles also has a huge smile on his face while gazing at Princess Diana.

For the occasion, Princess Diana decided to wear a blue long-sleeved dress that featured a wrap around the waist. Underneath the coat dress is a white printed high-neck top. Princess Diana was also photographed in her white stockings and black flat shoes after her engagement to Prince Charles.

Princess Diana’s engagement look is only similar to Markle in that they both wore wrap-around coats. But the late Princess of Wales’ style is more similar to what Kate Middleton wore when she got engaged to Prince William in 2010.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore a blue long-sleeved, knee-high dress for the occasion. She paired her attire with her dark-colored shoes. Middleton’s dress also featured a low neckline, which is similar to Princess Diana. However, the mom of two simply covered her chest with an inner blouse.

Meanwhile, Princess Diana and Markle’s engagement photos are similar because they were taken outdoors. However, Prince William and Middleton’s engagement photo was taken inside the palace.

In related news, Judi James, a body language expert, told Express that Prince Harry and Markel’s engagement photo showed the royal couple in a more loved-up display of affection compared to Prince William and Middleton’s picture.

“As though learning from the past, Prince William presented his bride-to-be in a formal royal style with very little in the way of body language clues to suggest anything about their true emotions or even Kate’s real personality. It appeared to be a meeting of near-equals, with the pair standing side by side with mirrored, front-facing torsos and some eye-to-eye gazing,” she said.
