The series finale of “Quantico” was only written to be a season finale. While Friday’s episode wrapped up much of the story, it still left room for more. That was because the writers were setting up Season 4.

In the “Quantico” series finale, Conor Devlin (Timothy V. Murphy) kidnapped Andrea (Andrea Bosca) and Isabella (Emma Gia Celotto Signorini). The team managed to get Andrea back, but Conor took Isabella. Andrea insisted on going with Alex (Priyanka Chopra) to find his daughter, and unfortunately, Conor shot and killed him.

Ryan (Jake McLaughlin) had to sacrifice himself and take a savage beating for the team to save Isabella. After losing Conor again, they finally tracked him down and shot him in a bar. Ryan was in the ICU but expected to recover. Alex planned to take Isabella back to the U.S. and raise her, and Shelby (Johanna Braddy) told her not to run from love.

So where would “Quantico” Season 4 take viewers? Showrunner Michael Seitzman revealed to Deadline that Alex would have been learning how to balance her new duties. “Season 4 would find her in the uncomfortable yet rewarding position of figuring out how to raise a child while still saving the world every day,” he said.

The executive producer, who only stepped on board in Season 3 to replace creator Joshua Safran, also explained that he didn’t want this season finale to be about the romance. However, he revealed that Alex would have ended up with Mike McQuigg (Alan Powell) if the series had been renewed, and that Owen (Blair Underwood) and Jocelyn (Marlee Matlin) kiss would’ve gone somewhere too. Ryan, on the other hand, wouldn’t have been so lucky.

“Alex ends up with McQuigg, they raise Isabella together, and she continues with the FBI,” Seitzman explained when asked where he saw the characters in five years. “Owen and Jocelyn fall in love and have a peaceful happy life together. Ryan probably dies but Shelby becomes a legend in the FBI and finds love again.”

While fans and cast alike are likely disappointed by ABC’s cancellation of “Quantico,” Chopra seems to be content with where the series ends.

“As the series ends, I am saying goodbye to Alex Parrish. As you’ll see, her story will come full circle...and that is the best feeling as an actor. Bringing Alex to life has challenged me physically and emotionally, but even more significant it has (I hope) cracked the door open for female talent and women of color to play leading ladies,” the actress wrote on Instagram Friday night. “Thank you for opening your homes and hearts to me every week!”

The actress went on to thank her cast and crew as well.

“Quantico” was announced as canceled in May. The show was only three episodes into Season 3, which had fewer episodes, a new showrunner and left the serialized format behind in an effort to bring in new viewers. However, ratings continued to slip. The series averaged 2.57 million viewers in its final season with only 0.43 in the 18-49 demographic.
