Queen Elizabeth reportedly had a very unhappy time during her trip to Malta with Prince Philip several years ago.

Kitty Kelley, the author of “The Royals,” claimed that Her Majesty, for the most part, enjoyed her time in Malta. But there had been some incidents that made her feel unhappy. The Queen’s UK coverage of her time in Malta appeared to be more personal than critical.

Multiple publications commented on the Queen's wardrobe choice and her weight instead of the official role she and Prince Philip served there.

“Newspapers took her to task for looking like an ‘Edwardian vaudeville queen.’ Carpings out her weight and wardrobe disturbed her more than criticism about her children, especially coming from her husband,” Kelley wrote.

The author also revealed an incident wherein Prince Philip reportedly urged his wife not to wear the new dress that she showed him. After the Duke of Edinburgh commanded his wife not to wear her dress, Her Majesty reportedly went to drastic lengths to lose weight.

According to the source, what happened to Her Majesty was quite upsetting. “The Empire had on its hands a princess it adored passionately, but a princess that was overstuffed and overdressed. As a non-smoker she did not have the assistance of nicotine to hold down the poundage,” Kelly quoted Geoffrey Bocca’s early biography.

Bocca claimed that the monarch reportedly stopped eating starchy food and also took appetite-reducing pills. More specifically, she took three types of pills. A blue one for breakfast, a green one for lunch, and a chocolate pill at dinner. All of her diet pills were apparently purchased by servants in order to preserve her privacy.

Meanwhile, Prince Philip and the Queen also had a more public falling out during their trip to Australia in 1954. An Australian film crew caught the moment the Queen threw a pair of shoes and a tennis racket at Prince Philip. Royal press secretary Richard Colville approached the film crew and asked for the footage of the Queen screaming at her husband.

Moments after the incident, the Queen appeared in front of the media and apologized for what happened.
